The book is about mass consumption, which is so prevalent today. It evaluates the changes in the behaviour of the character Andy Sacks, played by actress Anne Hattaway, as she encounters a completely different world from the one she was used to and, under pressure from the influence of the fashion environment, she ends up seduced by the power of consumption.
