This volume arises from the conviction that much in current research on the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Old Testament) needs to be subjected to rigorous scrutiny and that much is radically mistaken. Professor Nicholson argues that the work of Julius Wellhausen remains the securest basis for understanding the Pentateuch.
