Maybe we love the fact that the hero has had to overcome adversity through hard work and determination. Maybe it's the action-packed pace of the story, with wizardry special effects bringing fantasy to life. Maybe it's something to do with the superhero's secret identity; think Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent and Peter Parker - people who carry on with their "normal" lives until they're called to action and transform into their superhero alter ego.
