Born behind bars in an Illinois maximum-security women's prison, Elijah Carter never had a fair start. Ripped from his mother's arms at birth and raised in the unforgiving streets of Englewood, Chicago, he learned to survive in a world of poverty, violence, and corruption. Under the guidance of his grandmother, Miss Ethel, a spiritual matriarch with prophetic visions, Elijah was told he was destined for something greater.
