Wastewater is generally viewed as a negative resource, both from an aesthetic perspective due to its characteristically bad odor, and from the fact that it's a main component is human generated waste. A greater importance, considering the need for treatment, is the fact that untreated wastewater discharged into a natural water body and open environment constitutes a great hazard for the environment and a health risk for human and animal lives.
